Who We Are?

This website is purely about communication. A lot of people are working hard to help take the tourism industry forward into the 21st Century. It may be that we are doing everything exactly as you would like us to. If, on the other hand, you feel we do not understand some of the problems at the sharp end of tourism, or if you feel that we are misrepresenting the industry in some way, CONTACT US! Our organisation is a federation of associations with over 30 members. Between them, those members represent more than 1,800 businesses involved in tourism. The CCTF covers all geographical areas of Cornwall, from Lands End to Bude; and all sectors, including accommodation, attractions, restaurants and activity centres, also some retail businesses. The members elect five of the ten person Executive Committee every year, and three members of the CCTF are nominated to sit on the Destination Management Organisation (DMO) for three years. (Please go to the section on the DMO for more details about how the partnership works) The CCTF is therefore the umbrella body of the private sector in tourism. It was formed in the 1970s to try to counteract the negative publicity and perceptions surrounding the industry in Cornwall. Since then, it has played a leading role as a lobbying group to put across the voice of the private sector in tourism in Cornwall. Three of our former chairmen: Dick Edward-Collins, Tony Tregoning and Phil Gardner were celebrated in the 2003 Cornwall Tourism Awards with special lifetime awards for tourism. In 2004 we adopted, for the first time, a constitution and business plan (both of which can be downloaded from this website). Written into the constitution is the aim of the CCTF: As representatives of the private sector, the aim of the Federation shall be to encourage the development of a tourism industry that satisfies the needs of visitors, businesses and local communities whilst protecting and enhancing Cornwalls unique environmental and cultural assets now and in the future. As well as working in partnership with the other members of the DMO, the CCTF carries out a lot of lobbying on behalf of its members on all aspects of legislation and to inform its members of current issues, e.g. the Visit Britain Entry Level Scheme (ELS), Licensing Act 2003, the Disability Discrimination Act, National Quality Assurance Scheme (standards of accommodation and attractions), sustainability in tourism, staff training, school term dates, windfarms, and so on.
